Why Individual Voices Matter in Communities

When I think about Communities, I think about waves, surfing together to the unknown lands.

But also, I notice how important it is to cultivate an individual voice in pararell to being in the community.

Without a sense of self, belonging in the community is not healthy, it is out of balance. Community (some voices in it) decide to go to the land x. And I flow with it. But if I don’t share my voice, we miss on important debate about which land we should explore together. And if I have a subconscious habit to wait for someone from the community to ask me to share my voice, and at times that person may not be in the meeting, I always depend on someone’s nudge to open up, which isn’t a good thing.

So cultivating a habit of taking a mic or sometimes creating a mic, and using it to share my voice, is so crucial. One day I may be that person who gives a mic to someone who is silent. And the story will repeat itself.

So, to more diverse communities where multiple voices sing together!
